I saw the Documentary (movie) on steroids, Bigger Stronger Faster by Christopher Bell (again) at the Tribeca Film Festival
I saw Bigger Faster Stronger, by Christopher Bell again yesterday. It’s a great
And here’s my story:
I went to see Bigger Stronger Faster last night at the Tribeca Film Festival. For those of you who don’t live in or around Manhattan (New York City), and are wondering what a “Tribeca” is…well, Tribeca is actually spelled “TriBeCa” because it is New Yorker shorthand for the “Triangle Below Canal” street. It’s a very nice neighborhood with tons of places to eat, drink, shop, etc… and it’s where James Gandolfini & Michael Imperioli (Tony Soprano and Chris, from the Sopranos) live, as well as Jay-Z, John Stewart, and Scarlett Johansson. Robert Dinero owns a bunch of stuff down there (place to eat, some property he rents, etc…), and he actually founded the Tribeca Film Festival.
So…yeah, basically it’s a pretty bad-ass place to chill out and eat, drink or shop. I did two of those things (had a meal and drinks, with my wife)…you never know who you’ll run into.
And I did actually run into someone…. Before I actually got into the film, I recognized Coach John Bott. Coach Bott is a 275lb powerlifter looking to total 2200 in his next meet, and about a 900lb squatter. I (sort of) met him a few years prior when Dave Tate invited me out to dinner with them. Interestingly: Coach Bott was a wrestling coach for North Bergen when I was a (bad but varsity) wrestler for my own town. We had a bunch of joint practices with them because we didn’t face them in the season. So I actually knew him (as he helped coach me on multiple occasions) before Dave introduced us, but I’m sure he didn’t recognize me 10 years after I graduated High School.
Anyway, the movie was just the type of thing that I wanted to support, so I figured I’d go see it again. Last time I saw it was in Dallas, so Chris Bell and his (amazing) videographers were pretty shocked to see me again. And it was pretty cool that they remembered me from Dallas and said hi, and gave me a few minutes of their time again – because I’m sure they had a million things going on at once. Chris even had his parents in attendance and they pitched in with the Q & A at the end.
Which brings me to another point, which is that people in NYC are smarter than people in Dallas. I don’t have any statistics to back that up, but the questions asked in NYC were just more pointed and relevant in my estimation. Also, nobody used the word “Y’all”, or had a belt buckle bigger then my head.
I almost didn’t recognize Chris without his trademark cargo shorts. But when I talked to him outside the film, he told me that he had just attended a debate/discussion with some steroid experts, and that John Romano and Victor Conte were there.
I almost said “Really? And who were the steroid experts?” But I thought better of it…
Anyway, the film was amazing (again) and if you care at all about anabolic steroids, and a pro-legalization movement you’ll go see it.
And bring some friends, too…especially if they don’t know anything about Anabolic Steroids. . (If you’re a bodybuilder, and therefore have no friends, this is an opportunity to get some)
And buy the DVD for crissake.
